Your privacy, your choice
Your privacy
Privacy is the heart of A Better Us. Here is, in plain words, what happens to what you write and share.
Your journal
- What you write is private — from your partner and from whoever runs A Better Us. The admin tools have no way to show journals.
- Entries are encrypted in our database. The person who runs the server holds both the database and the app’s secret key, so they could technically decrypt entries. The app is built so this never happens in normal use, and it never will.
- Journal text never goes into logs, emails, or any outside service. The only exception is encrypted backups, which stay encrypted.
Sharing with your partner
- You share an entry only if you choose to, one at a time.
- You can stop sharing any time. That stops future access in the app; it can’t undo what your partner has already read.
- Either of you can unlink at any time. Unlinking stops every share between you, and reveals nothing private.
- There are no scores, streaks or read receipts. Neither of you can see what the other has read, written or chosen.
Outside services
- Spoken audio is made with ElevenLabs, a voice service. It receives first names (yours for your daily greeting, and both of yours for the one-time welcome) and the text of each reflection — nothing else about you.
- Background images and loops are made with fal.ai from descriptions of calm scenes. Nothing about you is sent.
- There is no advertising and no analytics tracking. The only cookies are the two needed to keep you signed in and secure.
Your data, your choice
- In Settings you can download everything that’s yours: your profile, journal entries, intentions, favorites and letter.
- You can delete your account there too. It unlinks you from your partner, ends any shares, and permanently removes your journal, intentions, favorites, letter and greeting audio. Copies in server backups are erased within 14 days.
